Rebecca Breeds wants Ruby, Casey future
Home and Away star Rebecca Breeds has hinted that she would like to see a reunion for Ruby Buckton and Casey Braxton. The actress’s troubled character split from Casey a few weeks ago, wanting to keep her distance from the Braxton brothers following the death of her mother Charlie.
However, Breeds told Digital Spy that she remains a huge fan of the on-screen pairing.
Discussing a possible reconciliation, she commented: “Ruby is very anti-Braxton for a while, but Casey and Ruby have a strong connection and I personally love their relationship, so never say never.”
Casey is currently facing difficulties of his own following a turbulent experience in juvenile detention.
Speaking of Casey’s woes, Breeds commented: “Ruby’s pretty closed off to him, so she doesn’t care much, but deep down I think she will always love him and feel for him. She would just want him to be okay.”
The 24-year-old added that Ruby needs “someone who will take care of her” if things don’t work out with Casey.
Rebecca interview: ‘Ruby grief is a challenge’
Digital Spy recently caught op with Rebecca Breeds, who plays Ruby, to hear about the drama ahead for her character.
You can read the article here.
We’ve recently seen some really emotional scenes for Ruby. What have they been like to film? How did you feel about saying goodbye to Esther Anderson, who played Charlie, after working with her so closely?
“They were very daunting and challenging, but when you give a good performance or go to a new place of emotional freedom, it’s such a rush. I feel like I’ve grown a lot as an actor through this opportunity.”
“It was really sad and I still miss her all the time, but I’m excited for her to explore new opportunities and show the world what she’s made of! We keep in touch when we can, but she’s away a lot now”How long do you think the loss of Charlie will affect Ruby for?
“The rest of her life. It’s going to take her a really long tome to grieve, heal and find how to live without her mother and best friend. Loneliness haunts her all the time.”How does Ruby react when she finds out that Brax has been seeing other women so quickly?
“She’s hurt and disgusted that he is disrespecting Charlie’s memory so soon. Especially as it was their relationship that led to Charlie’s death in the first place.”Is it true that the pair of them eventually reach an understanding and make up?
“I can’t say too much, but i’s not the one event. It’s an ongoing process of healing and forgiveness. She needs to be looked after and cared for, so I think she gives in and stops fighting him after a while, but it’s always hard.”Do you think there could be any future for Ruby and Casey after their recent break-up?
“Ruby is very anti-Braxton for a while, but Casey and Ruby have a strong connection and I personally love their relationship, so never say never.”Casey is also hiding a big secret about losing control in juvenile detention. How would Ruby react if she found out?
“She’s preyy closed off to him right now, so she doesn’t care much, but deep down I think she will always love him and feel for him. She would just want him to be okay.”If not Casey, who else from the Bay do you think Ruby would be interested in?
“Who knows? She’s so lonely that she just loves any company. She needs someone who will take care of her.”What can you tell us about Ruby pursuing surfing with Romeo?
“It’s just an escape and something positive to spend her time and energy on. Ruby knows Indi may not like it, but she knows it’s all completely innocent and thinks Indi needs to trust and support her husband. I think Ruby and Romeo get each other and care about each other. They have fun!.”What else is in store for Ruby this year?
“She’s got a lot of healing to do and that’s a very interesting, heartt-wrenching journey, so it’ll be fantastic entertainment!”
Voices in my head say stop eating
AFTER enduring years of taunts about her weight, Seven’s Home and Away star Rebecca Breeds says she still has to fight the voices in her head telling her she’s not skinny enough. Rebecca Breeds, 24 years old, who Plays Ruby Buckton on the popular soap, said there was immense pressure on young actors to stay thin. It’s something the Summer Bay stunner is acutely aware of after being constantly teased about her body growing up in Sutherland.
“I was a fat kid. I can laugh now. But I got teased about being an Oompa Loompa and stuff like that. I’ve always been healthy… but it’s the voices in my head (I’ve had to beat)” she said.
“It’s definitely something you have to learn: that you are going to be judged and scruntinised, but you have to decide how much you listen and how much you let other people’s opinions in.”
Breeds, who dates fellow Home and Away actor Luke Mitchell, has been nominated for several Logie Awards, but she admits she is still uncomfortable with the fame that comes with success.
“It’s a bit daunting going into an industry that is very much based around your appearance,” she said.
“I just want to act, I don’t care about that stuff. I hate that you need to think about it as much as you do to get work. If anything made me not want to be in this industry, it’s the high emphasis that people put on body image.”
“It’s ridiculous and unfair to the people in the industry who want to act.”
Breeds is nearing the end of her fourth year on the show and says she will continue playing Ruby for a while yet. When the time is right, she’s like to try her luck in Hollywood like many of her Home and Away predecessors.
“I want to do big, big awesome films and we awesome at it,” she said.

Ruby faces tragic decision
Home and Away’s Ruby Buckton faced a heartbreaking decision as the soap returned to screens in Australia two weeks ago on Monday. Back in November, the show’s 2011 season finale episode left Ruby’s mother Charlie in a critical condition after she was shot twice by vengeful Jake Pirovic.
Following weeks of specuation over the character’s future, Monday’s 2012 premiere saw Charlie rushed to hospital after she was found by her loved ones.
When Charlie’s lover Brax discovered who was responsible for her injuries, he raced off for a dramatic showdown with villainous Jake.
However, Ruby stayed at the hospital and there was a heartache in store for the student after Charlie returned from emergency surgery.
Local doctor Sid Walker was forced to break the news to Ruby that Charlie was only being kept alive by a ventilator and, as there was nothing more that medics could do, she would never breathe on her own again.
As Charlie’s next of kin, Ruby was then left with the decision over whether her life support should be turned off – which later plunged Brax into turmoil as he was determined not to give up on his girlfriend.
The drama continued to play in Tuesday’s episode as Ruby was unable to make a decision straight away.
